Retreat Day Prayers

REVISED INTENTIONS FOR QUARTERLY DAYS OF PENANCE:

IN EXPIATION:
for unfaithfulness in priestly and religious life
for scandals and betrayals
for opening our hearts to the influence of secularization
for lack of humility and obedience as well as want of the spirit of poverty in our   Congregation
for egoism and individualism, for criticism and slander destroying community life
for lack of the spirit of service and sisterly love.

IN THANKSGIVING – IN PETITION:
for the mercy of God upon the world
for the intentions of the Holy Father, the Church and our country
for priestly and religious vocations
for the spirit of faith and that families will direct their lives according to God’s commandments.

PRAYERS WITH INDULGENCES TO BE GAINED AT THE HOUR OF DEATH

PRAYER I
O Holy Joseph, chaste Spouse of the Mother of God, most glorious advocate of all who are in danger or in their last agony, and most faithful protector of all the servants of Mary, I, in the presence of Jesus and Mary, do from this moment choose you for my powerful patron and advocate, and implore you to obtain for me through your powerful intercession the grace of a happy death. Receive me, therefore, for your perpetual servant, and recommend me to the constant protection of Mary, your Spouse, and to the everlasting mercies of Jesus my Savior.
Assist me in all the actions of my life, which I now offer to the greater glory of Jesus and Mary.
Never, therefore, forsake me; and whatsoever grace you see most necessary and profitable for me, obtain it for me now and also at the hour of my death. I know not when I shall die, but whenever it shall happen, I invite you to be with me at my deathbed.
Through your gracious intercession, may there be granted me in my last hour all the graces I need, through the merits of Jesus Christ, my Savior, who together with the Father and the Holy Spirit, lives and reigns, world without end.  Amen.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I give you my heart and my soul.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, assist me in my last agony.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, may I breathe forth my soul in peace with you.

PRAYER II
O most merciful Lord Jesus! By your agony and sweat of Blood, by your death, deliver us, we implore you, from a sudden and unprovided death.
O most loving Lord Jesus! By your ignominious scourging and crowning with thorns, by your holy Cross and most bitter Passion, by your goodness, we humbly pray that you would not allow us to die without the holy Sacraments.
O dearly beloved Lord Jesus! By all your labor and sorrow, by your Precious Blood and most sacred Wounds, by your last words on the Cross: "My God, my God, why have you forsaken Me?" and "Father, into Thy hands I commend My spirit," we most earnestly beseech Thee to deliver us from sudden death. Grant us, we pray, time for repentance. Grant us a happy passing in Thy grace, that so we may be able to love you, praise you and bless you eternally. Amen.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I give you my heart and my soul.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, assist me in my last agony.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, may I breathe forth my soul in peace with you.

PRAYER III
O Jesus, as I adore your dying breath, I beseech you to receive mine.  Not knowing whether I shall have command of my senses as I depart from this world, I offer you, even now, my last agony and all the anguish of my passing.  Since you are my Father and my Savior, I give back my soul into your hands.  Grant that the last beat of my heart be an act of perfect love toward you.
O Lord my God, I now accept any manner of death, together with all its afflictions, that you will to send me.  I accept my death and its circumstances with complete abandonment and willingness. Amen.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I give you my heart and my soul.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, assist me in my last agony.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, may I breathe forth my soul
in peace with you.
